Palliative care is the treatment of the discomfort, symptoms, and stress of serious illness. You receive palliative care at the same time that you're re- ceiving treatments for your illness and it addresses psychological, social and spiritual suffering of patients and their families who are suffering from life limiting or life-threatening conditions such as cancer, stroke, congenital anomalies, debilitating and progressive neurological conditions, spinal injuries.
Palliative Care is not restricted to those at the End of Life and Seeking Pal- liative Care is not considered a death sentence. It stands for "a good death" which is pain-free and hopefully surrounded by loved ones, friends and family. Palliative care provides relief from symptoms including pain, short- ness of breath, fatigue, constipation, nausea, loss of appetite, problems with sleep, and many other symptoms. It can also help you deal with the side effects of the medical treatments you're receiving. Perhaps most impor- tant, palliative care can help improve your quality of life and provide help to your family as well.
